In today's economic bailouts it's time to grab your own hill of beans.

Cheap and versatile, beans are a great way to save money and eat well. In fact, Essence magazine reports eating beans can assist a person in losing weight, clearing complexion, strengthening hair and gaining energy. Plus, beans are tasty and nutritious. Oh, and again, did I mention cheap!

Often grown by American farmer's in places like Michigan, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, buying and eating beans may even help stimulate the United States Economy.

Once thought of as a humble food, beans can even help lower fat intake. Beans are significantly lower in fat than meats. Health magazine reports, "The average bean gets 27 percent of its calories from protein and only 6 percent from fat. A T-bone steak, on the other hand, gets 26 percent of its calories from protein and a whopping 72 percent from fat."

Of all plant sources, beans contain the highest-quality protein. When combined with other plant proteins, beans can even equal red meat as a protein source. Beans with corn, brown rice or many other complimentary grains, combine to give the body all of the essential amino acids that makes a complete protein without the higher saturated fat or cholesterol in meats.

Beans are nearly the perfect food: high in carbohydrates, fiber, iron and folic acid, yet contain little or no cholesterol. They've been shown to actually help lower cholesterol, fight certain types of cancer and normalize blood sugar, which is especially important for dieters, vegetarians and diabetics. But most importantly, they are delicious when added to almost any meal. What's more, they are cheap, tasty  and help your wallet and body. What is not to like about beans - including Navy, Red, Black, Kidney, Cranberry, Pinto, and Black-Eyed Beans.

The possibility of you getting yours during this economic instability is up in the air. So the best advice is to grab your own hill of beans.
